the lights on the barn flickered on and a few whinnies were emitted. the girl grabbed their halters and led the horses out to the pastures before heading back in and starting on the feeding. once every stall had grain, she cleaned out the waterers and started cleaning the stalls. once a stall was done, she would spread the clean bedding and put the hay down for the horses.
the song danced out of her mouth as she started on the last stall. the girl sang with her melodious voice as she tossed soiled bedding into the wheelbarrow. she had just got paid and she had the money in her back pocket which was stuck away for the special "date" she had today. jamie smiled and continued avril lavigne's "things i'll never say". it was exactly how she was feeling. it was also a nice feeling. she was "in love" and couldn't wait for today to actually begin. she sang a few more chords with a smile, waiting for the boy to get to the barn.
she was half way through the stall when she realized the wagon needed to be dumped. she pushed it out of the barn and over to the manure pile and dumped it out. a few horses came over to the fence to see what she was doing and she patted their necks before heading back into the barn and continuing on the stall.
the manager had said she was the best stablehand she had had yet because of how well she treated the horses, and how it seemed like she took alot of time on the stalls. it really only took jamie about 5 minutes for each stall. they looked like they had just been stripped and re-bedded.

every n e w day. Toby yawned, stretching out his legs and arms and craning his neck as he lay in bed. He had slept alright, but he couldn't stop thinking about the night before with Jamie. It had been one of the best times of his life, and he had finally made a friend here at Pine Hill, so it was something to be happy about; he just wished he could have fallen asleep easier. But oh well, he was going to go see her again today, maybe even spend the whole day with her, wouldn't that be a dream come true. He looked over at his alarm clock, which read 8:00 AM in bright green letters. He groaned, and rolled over. Back home, during the summer, he never woke up this early. But it was a price to pay for living out in the countryside he guessed and he sat up, running a hand through his messy hair.
Toby got up from his bed and went through his morning routine of showering, chaning into clean clothes, eating a little something for breakfast and watching one of his favourite cartoons, The Adventures of Billy and Mandy. He didn't see how anyone could not love that stupid little show. Today, Toby decided on some lighter coloured, slightly skinny jeans, a t-shirt, and a black and gray striped hoodie.
Now refreshed and ready to go, Toby grabbed the keys to his car, his wallet, and his cell phone, like he did before he went anywhere. The barn wasn't all that far away, so Toby jogged, not having to wait longer than absolutely necessary to see Jamie again. Once there, Toby quickily made a detour to see Jade, his black Freisian filly. "Hey sexy lady." He said to her, patting her on the nose and holding out a mint for the girl. "Gotta run babe" He told her, patting her neck. He left her and she watched him leave, her neck stuck over the fence. She nickered at him, wanting him to come back, but he just turned around and waved, then entered the barn.
A smile lit up his face as he saw the familiar blonde girl. "Hey Jamie!" Toby said happily, his voice excited.369 words. (c) mystifyingminds.

the girl jumped slightly when the boy spoke and spun around, leaning back on the pitchfork. she nervously tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear and kept it there for a moment before letting it drop to her side as she put the rake in the wheelbarrow. she nervously smiled. "by chance, you didn't hear any of that, did you?" she didn't like to sing in front of people, and the song she was singing did give a bit of clue to how she felt about him. she pressed her lips together then smiled like nothing had happened.
"how are you this morning? she asked as she put the wheel barrow back by the arena and put the rake back in its stand. she stepped into the bathroom and left the door open, fixing her hair in the mirror. she took off her sweatshirt and brushed her pants off. they hardly got dirty and it wasn't obvious that there was anything on them. she changed her shoes to her white heeled flip flops and straightened her light wash jeans so they barely touched the ground around her heels. she was wearing a teal tank top, and had a teal hair band around her wrist. along with her teal apparel, she had a thick teal headband through her blonde hair. she stepped out of the bathroom and turned off the light before grinning and holding her hands. she quickly leaned back and grabbed her bag from the ground with the two adorable people on it. there was a little boy and a little girl who were holding hands. the boy had a speech bubble that said "does this mean you love me?" and the girl's bubble said "only for today". she stepped towards toby and her heels clicked on the cement floor, echoing through the barn.

every n e w day. Toby grinned and nodded his head. "Sorry to tell ya, hun, but I caught some of it. You have an excelent voice though, you shouldn't be ashamed or whatever." He told her in his normal voice, trying not to act too excited to see the girl again. He didn't want to embarass himself infront of her. Although that wouldn't really be being true to himself, he was always actinga bit weird, different than other people. More relaxed and outgoing, I guess you could say, less caring about what people thought of him perhaps.
Toby followed her to the bathroom, leaning on the wall outside of it. He watched her fix her hair and clean herself up. "I'm great." He said reaching one of his hands up to ruffle his hair, letting it settle down into it's place. "What about you?" He asked, sending the question back at her politely.
As Jamie stepped out of the bathroom, Toby couldn't help but give her a once over. 'd**n, she's even hotter than yesterday.' Toby thought to himself, smiling at her. He looked down at her feet after hearing the clink of her heels on the cement. How did girl's do it? He didn't get how they could wear high heels, it didn't quite make sense to him. He had tried some on in the past, and all he had done was stumble around and nearly twist his ankle. Plus, they had no traction what-so-ever.

the girl smiled. "well at least you thought it was good." she said with a giggle. it was still a pretty crazy song to be singing out loud, but she shook it off. she closed the door to the bathroom and stood on her toes before landing back down on her heels. "wanna walk, or drive?" she said with a smile, opening the door to the barn and stepping out. she walked out onto the gravel. her heels found their way through the rocks and shone with the sun. the girl covered her eyes with her hand until her eyes adjusted. she smiled and swung her head around to get her hair behind her shoulders. it shone in the sun, for she had slept in the barn house that night, and took a shower before going to bed.
up the drive, a blue chevy sedan pulled up. it parked in the lot before a blonde boy stepped out of the car. he looked around before his eyes caught jamie. he waved and called out to her. hey! is it cool if i ride lucy? "of course. i am heading out to the mall with toby." she said pointing back to the boy. oooh. have fun. the boy said teasingly. he disappeared into the barn before heading towards the pasture.
jamie rolled her eyes and looked back at toby. "uhm yeah. don't mind him. he's just an idiot." she said. james was quite a special thing. and he also was a big tease. but of course she did it to him too, but not always in front of the person. her cheeks were a bit flushed, but she covered it up.

every n e w day. Well of course it was good, everything about Jamie was good, he couldn't find one single thing in her yet that he found unattractive. Toby then mentally shook his head, making himself pay attention to what was coming out of the girl's mouth instead of thinking how perfect she was.
"Uh... it doesn't matter to me." He said with a shrug of his shoulders. It was a nice day out, the sun was shining ... and reflecting so beauitfully off Jamie's hair, making her look like she was pretty much glowing. Again he had to mentally shake his brain, telling it to concrentrate. 'Are you capable of being normal, or do you have to be beaten in the head with a stick?' He asked himself, sighing to himself. But anyway, it was a nice day and Toby didn't care whether they walked or drove. It was up to Jamie, she was the one with the uncomfortable looking shoes on.
Just then, the car showed up and the blonde looked out. Toby gave a friendly wave as he heard Jamie mention his name, and grinned as the boy teased her. He laughed as Jamie told him not to mind the boy, "who was that?" He asked, watching him enter the barn. Obviously it was someone she knew quite well, otherwise he wouldn't be teasing her.

she shook her head. "my nerdy older brother, james." she said with a giggle. "uhm. i suppose we can drive. these don't look like they will last for a walk."" said said with a bright smile, looking at her shoes. she stepped over to her truck and unlocked it. she went to the back and stood on the back bumper leaning over the door. she undid some cords and pushed the gooseneck up and over the back of the holder. it almost touched the bed of the truck, but it was far enough up that if she drove out, the truck bed wouldn't get scraped. she opened the trunk of the truck and hit "auto-start" on her keys.
the truck jumped to life with a rumble. the large, dark blue ranch king ford f-350 glistened in the sunlight as the motor rumbled. she opened the door and sat in the cab, pushing the gas down lightly, enough so that she could put the trunk door up without getting it stuck on the trailer, she turned the truck towards toby and got out, the door open and motor still running. she shut the trunk and yelled over to the boy "hop in!" she said, laying on her stomach across the seat to open the passenger door.

every n e w day. Toby nodded, he should have been able to tell that was her brother. They seemed to have that teasing brother-sister thing about them. Toby grinned and nodded his head again, that sounded like a plan. "That's what I was thinking." He said with a light laugh as he watched Jamie go unhitch the trailer and pull up beside him. He helped Jamie open the door and hopped in. "Nice truck!" He said, looking around at the interior of the cab. Way nicer than his beat up old thing, he was surprised that thing even ran. But he liked older vehicles, for some odd reason he wasn't quite sure of himself.
Toby looked over at Jamie, smile still on his face. "We're going to Caribou first, right?" He asked, suddenly having a craving for a frapp. Yeah, the boy was still used to going to a Starbucks nearly every other day back in Alberta. It had been a thing of his to nearly almost have a cup of coffee in his hand. But since he moved here, he hadn't had time to get a coffee machine yet, and thats part of the reason he got a job at Caribou, because of his slight addiction. "I could really use a frapp, I'd also like to see if my paycheck is there." Toby explained, taking a look at Jamie.
His eyes then moved out of the window, seeing Jade peering over the fence of the pasture at him. He gave her a wave and she nickered. Toby had to laugh as they drove away she continued to look after him, her expression pretty much saying 'Hey, where are you going without me?'

"for definatly!" she said with a smile, she shut the door to the cab and rolled down her window, she pulled the truck out of the drive and turned on to the road, heading towards caribou. once they hit the main road, she put her seatbelt on, and the radio blasted country. she turned it down, quickly remembering how she had been blaring it on the way to the barn. "haha sorry bout that." she said. she pressed the button that had binged telling her that the camera was disconnected. "stupid truck. obviously the trailer camera is off. sometimes this thing bothers me." she said with a smile. the light they were approaching turned red, and she slowed. the second they were at a complete stop, it turned green. she turned into the caribou and turned the truck off. she unbuckled herself and opened the door. "yea! caribou!" she said excitedly. it was probably one of her favorite places.
she stepped out of the truck and shut the door. so yea. she probably wasn't the most caring person about locking up her truck. the window was still down and the doors unlocked. but they would only be there a minute.

every n e w day. Toby grinned, "good." He said to her. His craving for a drink only becoming stronger as he could sense they were getting close to the familiar store. Toby then had to laugh. He didn't mind country music, but he would have rather listen to something a little more electric. He also enjoyed playing country music, but he couln't get the singing part of it down.
Then, he had to laugh again, rolling his eyes. "Hey, just be glad you have one of these camera things. I don't have one of these hightech things." He said, grinning. He could probably easily learn to use one and buy one for his truck, but he didn't think it was all that necessary. He has pulled Jade in the trailer before without one and it went smoothly enough.
As they pulled up to Caribou Toby jumped out of the truck, eager to get some caffine into his system. He walked to the door and held it open for Jamie, motioning with his head for her to go in infront of him. He walked in after her, glad to see there was no line up at the counter. He'd let her order first; after all, ladies were always first.

the girl giggled "i have a tendency to go over bumps. i like to make sure my horses have survived. i can be a pretty wild driver." she said with a smile. she walked into the cafe and smiled as the smell of coffee filled her lungs. she stepped up to the counter and smile. "allright, here we go." she said with a smile. the cashier smiled, his toothy grin making her smile. "i want a large cookies & cream snow drift...but can you mix it with the minty one?" she asked sweetly. for you i can. he said. she smiled, but when he turned around, she looked to toby and rolled her eyes, a big grin on her face. she paid for her drink and went over to wait for her drink. a young girl put it up on the counter and called out the order. she smiled and thanked her, taking a sip while she waited for toby.
while waiting, a book on the table caught her eye. she picked it up and looked at it before holding it up for toby to see. she lipped to him "i want this book". she said with a giggle. it was called "the caring bou". it was pretty much about a caring bou. it was to promote the store to little kids. she saw it the last time she was there and found it quite amazing. she was weird like that though.

every n e w day. Toby smiled at the dude behind the counter. "Hey, I'll have a Green Tea Frapp, with that rasberry drizzle stuff ontop of the whipped cream." He said, adding the last part in there with a grin. Man he loved Green Tea fraps, they tasted like heaven.
While waiting for his drink to be made he turned around and watched Jamie pick up the book and show it to him. He grinned and took it from her, flipping through the pages. She wanted it? She got it. He put it on the counter and paid for it along with his drink then moved over and picked up the drink. "Thanks babe." He said with a grin to the girl. He knew her from working with her and she giggled, waggling her fingers at him as he turned around and gave Jamie her book. "There ya are." He said with a large grin. "Thats an awesome title." He said, laughing at it.
Toby quickily said another thanks to the two people working there and then headed toward the door, opening it once again for Jamie to go through first before following her out.

the girl's eyes widened. she hugged toby. "haha thanks. she flipped through the pages and smiled, giving him another hug. okay, she was more than happy. the smile on her face was huge as she pushed through the door and held it open for toby. as she held it open, she read the first page out loud. "there once was a caring bou.." she paused and looked up at him. "this is freakin great." she said with a smile. she while looking at the book, she pushed a button on her keys. she thought it was the auto-start, but it ended up being the alarm. a little kid, ran for his mom, screaming "i didn't touch it! i swear!".
the girl laughed and turned it off, pressing the start button. she shook her head and opened the door to the truck, putting her cup in the cup holder and putting the book on the dashboard. "yay. shopping!" she said with a laugh.

every n e w day. Toby hugged Jamie back, twice. Well, she sure was easy to make happy, and he was glad that he could do that. He loved when his friends were happy, and wouldn't have it any other way. "Glad you like it, Sweety." He said, the last word of his sentence slipping out. He didn't mean to say it, it just sort of popped out of his mouth. He called all of his girlfriends that, when he got to know them better and were truely his friends and he felt like they wouldn't think he was insane. So, I guess that it was a good sign, but maybe she'd think it was a bit weird, only having met him yesterday.
Toby jumped into the truck, reaching over his shoulder for his seatbelt. "Heck yeah. I adore shopping." Toby said with another large grin, laughing with her. "Okay, I need to get Jade a halter, don't let me forget. I could also use some new jeans and a few tops and... well, whatever else looks good. What about you?" Toby asked, still grinning.

she smiled brightly at him and backed out. "lets see. i was shopping online at zumiez, and they had this awesome heart sweatshirt and a dinosaur shirt. so if they have them in the store, i want to get them. and a stable blanket for the ponies...and new leather halters. and whatever else." she said with a smile. the truck rounded the corner and was off down the street to the large mall up ahead. "oh yea!" she said excitedly as she turned the parking lot corner. there was a spot close to the door, she quickly turned the corner only to be confronted by a little car that wanted to park there. she sighed, but then revved the engine and pulled forewards a bit. the car backed up and turned around, going the other way. she smiled and pulled it. "i didn't think that would work." she said with a bright smile, parking the truck.
the cab door clicked open and the girl looked in the rear-view mirror, checking her hair. she turned around and looked in the back seat. she was pretty much doing a handstand looking around in the backseat. her shoe fell off and out of the truck door. "bummer." she said with a laugh. she grabbed the small sheet of paper she was looking for which happened to be under the driver's seat. she sat back up and fixed her hair that had gotten stuck to her lip. "okay. i think we are ready to go." she said, sliding out of the truck she shut the door and locked the truck this time. she walked around the back of the truck and towards the mall, reading the paper and holding her shoe in her hand. a few people looked at her like she was crazy, and she just smiled and waved back
