Gooch lent against the gate, squinting into the earlyt morning sunlight. Tucking his pinkies into the corners of his mouth, he emitted a sharp piercing whistle. A large bay mare at the far corner of the small, grassy paddock lifted her head, eyeing the boy from a distant. Swinging her hind quarters round to face the boy she continued to graze. Gooch sighed, rolling his eyes to himself as he vaulted swiftly over the gate, landing with a soft thud. He set off down the field, whistling quietly to himself, hiding the head collar behind his back. But Poet knew what was coming and skipped past the young teen, lunging into a canter. Giving a large buck she charged up the field, her eyes rolling, tail streaming in a banner behind her. "Poet!" Gooch half called, half sighed in exasperation. Cat and mouse. Everytime. The mare was kept in a paddock on her own, or with one of Pine Hall's horses, Antsy, an old mare who had lived at these stables since foal-hood. Gooch frowned, glaring at Poet who acnter lazily up the field, kicking out her heels as she passed Gooch. An idea struck the young male, and with a sly grin he dropped to the ground, rolling into the feotal posistiion. It took a good few minutes before the mare stopped galloping around. Gooch heard her snorting with confusion. He could hear her take a few tentive steps towards him, still wary. Tossing her head, she spun away, galloping back up the field. She did this a few more times before finally inching up to the boy, nervously snuffling his hair. With a flick of his wrist, Gooch leapt up, quickly looping the lead round Poet's neck before she could make a hasty escape. The mare struggled, dancing on the spot, threatening to rear before finally calming down and accepting a mint from Gooch's outstretched hand. Slipping the head collar swiftly over her head, he lead the fiery mare up the field, grinning to himself.

the game begins, Toby grinned as he sat on the fence watching a boy trying to catch his mare. He had to laugh. The mare obviously liked to play keep away, sort of like his own horse. The filly was right beside him, grazing quietly. Obviously she hadn't noticed the other mare yet, otherwise she'd be over there in a flash, trying to make friends. Toby watched as the boy lay down on the ground, the horse now intersted in him.
Jade's head suddenly came up from the ground, her ears pirked in attention. Her eyes scanned the field until she saw the two figures coming toward them. Just as Toby had predicted, she was instantly interested in the two and bolted off, going to go investigate. She got about three quarters the way there and then stopped with a snort and pawed at the ground. She was a bit shy but she wanted to meet the two. "Jade!" Toby called after her, watching her. He sighed and jumped off the fence, running to chase after her.
Jade payed no attention to the boy and started slowly walking with her head down to the other two. She whickered in a soft greeting, bobbing her head up and down. She turned around to look at Toby as he came running up to her. "You needa get bigger so I can ride you." He said to the filly, putting a hand on her side. He smiled at the boy and his mare approaching and waved at them, "hey." He said to them.255 words (c) mystifyingminds

Poet tossed her head at the sight of the filly and glared at the young horse, rolling her eyes. Gooch took a sharp step back from the filly, wary of Poet striking out.
He looked up, hearing a voice ring out, and squinted into the sunlight, watching a shadowed figure move towards them. The boy stopped beside the fiddle, laying a hand to rest on her side.
"Hey." Gooch greeted the boy, taking another step back as Poet snapped lightly at the air, swinging the her hind quarters around, pawing at the neatly cropped grass.
Her rich bay coat shone in the sunlight, a glossy sheen rippling across her body.
"Just ignore her. She has issues." Gooch grinned lightly

j a m e w o o d ; a song for your heart, and when it is quiet, i know what it means...
the bay mare snorted as the other horses got excited. she picked up her head from her grazing spot and trotted over to see what the comotion was. she let out a whinny when she realized that she recognized the brown haired boy. the mare bobbed her head and lipped at his shirt before sniffing the filly again. she was her playmate, even if it was just a filly. turning around, she sniffed the new boy and mare before dropping her head and rubbing in against the new boy's leg.
soon a figure appeared at the gate. "going out?" he asked as he opened the gate and held it open for the blonde boy. he too was blonde and grabbing a bay mare. "hey lucy." he said to the bay. lucy snorted and looked over at him. she soon came over, smelling the familiar smell of peppermints in his hand. she allowed him to halter her so she could eat her treats. he smiled and patted the mare's head. "are you all going for a ride?" he asked, looking at the other boys.
he recognized the brown haired boy and waved. "hey. your whats your name...jamie's friend. i'm james, i don't think we've met." he said with a kind smile. lucy rubbed her face against james and snorted softly before nipping at a few locks of grass.
&&i'll carry you home.
okay, so the person who plays james is my friend steve in real life, so i have to constantly go back and change the name from steve to james lol.

Poet bared her teeth at the mare, shaking her head.
She barged forward, only to be pushed back by Gooch, who shot as apologetic glance at a blonde hair boy who had joined them.
"Gooch." He replied, vaguely recongizing the face.
"If we ever get out." He laughed shooting a sidelong look at Poet who eyed the new boy suspiciously.
[[Sorry for shrimpness. =/]]]

j a m e s w o o d ; the boy smiled and led the mare out. "nice to meet you" he said with a grin. "my own horse is supposed to be coming today, but until then, i am riding lucy. i think my sister said that toby could ride lucy whenever. but i have yet to meet him." he said with a smile. he patted lucy and led her out of the pasture. "are you riding today gooch?" he asked, patting the mare who stood at his side, ready to go back in the pasture already.
the mare dropped her head and grabbed some more grass, flicking her tail at the pesty flies. she snorted softly and looked at the mare again who had pinned her ears at her. she stuck her nose out to sniff her again and whickered lightly.

the game begins, Toby laughed at Jade, who was eager to see who the new mare was. So she walked closer, but took a step back when the other horse started acting up. Toby laughed, which horse didn't have their own issues? "I..." He started, but got cut off by a nicker from Jade, who had seen her mate Lucy come up to them. She ran up to meet the older bay mare, kicking out her heels. Toby grinned at his filly, watching her greet Lucy. Toby patted the horses head as it came to say hello.
Toby then saw the boy and waved back. "Nice to meet you James, Gooch" Toby said with a grin, "I'm Toby." He told both of the boys, patting Jade's head as she came and bumped into his back. "Oh so Jamie's your sister?" He asked, a grin on his face. Oh great, now he had to impress her brother. Well didn't that make things just a little bit harder. He put a smile on his face, hoping that James would like him.

j a m e s w o o d ; james grinned his silly little grin and pressed his face against lucy. "oooh, so your jamie's "guyfriend" as she calls it." he said with a teasing smile. james was the kind to have a strange sense of humor. toby seemed like a nice guy. he thought jamie did a good job picking friends. "if you want, we could go for a ride later. like maybe trails, or just in the arena. you could ride lucy. my horse should be here in like, an hour." he suggested to toby. this guy seemed great. "oh, and jamie said you played guitar...what kind?" he asked with a smile. he wanted to start a band. he had heard his sister's voice, and he thought if he could convince her, maybe she could be lead singer.

"Yes, though Poet has other ideas." Gooch replied in answer to James's question.
He stood quietly as the two boys chatted, keeping a sharp eye on Poet, who had grown bored of the situation, and had ducked her head to snatch a for mouthfuls of grass, warily eyeing the mare, Lucy, that had also sauntered up.
Her head sprung back up, and she stamped a hoof in impatience, her tail flickering with a swish to the side as she heaved out a sigh. Though Gooch loved Poet, it didn't always help social situations when he had to take a step back to prevent Poet causing any strife.

the game begins, "I guess so." Toby said with a laugh. Guyfriend, hah. Well... I guess Toby would call Jamie his chickfriend, if they wanted to call each other that, and it was clearly obvious that James loved to tease people, expecially his sister.
Toby nodded at his next question. "Yeah, that'd be awesome!" He said in an excited voice. Lucy was a great mare and she behaved very well for Toby, he loved riding her. Well, he had only ridden her once before, but it was still enough to get a glimpse of what she was like.
"Well, I can play any type of guitar actually, but I really enjoy acoustic and bass, although electric is fun too." Toby said, shrugging his shoulders. I guess he was multi-talented. You give him any type of guitar and he could play a pretty decent song. "I sing too, but my voice is nothing compared to Jamie's." He continued, a smile on his face, remembering how he had caught Jamie singing in the barn.

Gooch grinned, scratching Poet behind her flickering ear.
The mare's head bowed for a moment, showing a little of her more calm, and affectionate, side, before gently nipping Gooch's arm.
The teen shifted akwardly. The two obviously knew each other, and he didn't feel quite in touch with the conversation. Gooch cleared his throat.
"Erm..i'd better head up and get Poet breakfasted and all that jazz. What time do you want to meet for a ride?" He asked, pushing Poet's nose away as she head butted him lightly.

j a m e s w o o d ;
the boy shrugged. "how about you meet me in the ring. i will probably head there after getting lucy and my horse tacked up. then we can go off on a trail ride or something." he said with a smile. he didn't mind taking a while to warm up his new horse. it was good to warm up a horse of his size properly.
the boy led lucy into the barn and tied her up by one of the stalls so that toby could use his tack and get her ready. a whicker came from one of the stalls as the boy headed down the isle. "hey there, jonny. you ready to go out and work?" a soft snort was the reply as the sound of a door sliding open and sudden, excited hoof beats were heard.
the boy walked the gelding down the isle, making sure there was room for him before tying him up near lucy. he patted him and went off to the tack room to grab his stuff and a his grooming box.
the bay percheron gelding stood with his head arched and looking towards where the boy had disappeared to. he snorted softly and then began to paw, but stopped as the boy called out sharply. he snorted happily when the boy returned with the saddle, pad, and brushes. he dropped his head happily as the boy began to brush him. soon, he was done and grabbed the hoof pick. the gelding picked up his foot with a simple call and held it nicely as the boy cleaned out each of his feet.
soon the pad and saddle were on, and then the bridle. james led the horse down the isle and out into the large indoor arena. james halted the gelding and made him stand nicely as he got a few caveletties and lined them up so they would have something to work on. the boy rolled them over so they were on the lowest level before tightening the girth and swinging up into the western saddle. he nudged the horse forewards and began warming up at the walk.

[[Will just post here to save trouble going back and forthf rom the stable.] Gooch nodded, grinning lightly before leading Poet up the stables. The mare barged into his shoulder jogging by his side as she looked around wearily, eyeing the mucking-out impliments lent harmlessly against the wall.
"Feeling spicey today, arn't we girl?" Gooch smiled as Poet shied to the side, glaring at an offending water bucket. The teen led the horse to the cross ties, before wandering off to the tack room to gather the nessisary equipment. After the battle of grooming and tacking the mare, which included in kicking, nipping, considerable amounts of head tossing and teeth baring, Gooch stuffed his riding hat onto his mass of coiled curled hair.
Clucking his tongue, he led the equine from the ties and into the sharp sunlightl, hesitating for a moment, gathering the thoughts bundled into his head. Gathering the reins in one hand, he hooked a foot in the stirrup only for Poet to shoot forward.
"Not this again..." Gooch muttered in frustration. With the aid of a mounting block, Gooch swung into the saddle, tightening his grip on the reins before the mare could bolt off. Tightening his girth, which had loosely caused the saddle to slip precatuiously to the side, and adjusting his strirrups, that were set to jumping level, they set off at a crisp walk towards the arena, Poet's head popping along as they stepped into the sanded school.
"Howdy" Gooch greeted, his broad Scottish lilt ringing out as they set across the sands. Poet tossedher head at the sight of the other horse, rollingher eyes dramatically as Gooch asserted her with a twitch of the rein and nudge of the heel. He felt her musckes tense, ready to throw a hissy fit, before obliging, grudgingly, and moving on.

j a m e s w o o d ;
the gelding whickered lightly as another horse entered the arena. the boy nudged the horse back to the rail where he collected the reins and nudged the gelding into a trot. the gelding tossed his head and snorted before dropping his head and collecting nicely. the boy gently had him go around the arena before pressing him back onto the rail and getting him over the poles.
once before the poles, the gelding shortened his stride and bounced over them happily before picking up a slow canter on the other side. the boy sat easily on his seat and easily squeezed the reins as the stallion cantered. he soon stood trotted effortlessly again.
they went over the poles a few more time before switching directions. the poles were spread out with enough room to canter over them without a problem, so trotting over them was a bit more difficult. luckily the gelding listened well and could find his stride easily. soon the boy nudged him into a canter and collected his reins.
the gelding dropped his head and moved into a nice dressage canter. the boy slowed him a bit to a lope and he sailed past the cavelleties. the boy got him near the poles again and circled him before directing him over them. he went over them easily yet again.
slowly, the boy decreased his horse's speed and dismounted, he set up a small jump, about a foot high and left a single pole a canter stride away from the jump before mounting and sending the warmed up gelding into a trot. it was a bit complicated, but soon the gelding found his stride and made it easily over the jump. the boy picked up a canter and they sailed over it again. he knew that the jumps on the trail would be a bit bigger, but this was good enough for a warm up.
soon the boy was letting the gelding stretch down and walked out. he was hardly sweating, and his nares flared. giving a shake of his banner the gelding whickered to the other horse and approached slowly, lowering his head.

Poet scowled at the other horse, who whickered a friendly greeting. Giving her a light nudge, and cluck of the tongue, Gooch urged her into a walk. After several laps of a nice, free walk, relaxed and ambling, as relaxed and ambling as you can get with Poet, Gooch began to playon the bit, working it between his hands. Poet's flicked an ear, tossing her head for a moment, before reluctently obliging. Her neck arched beautifully before them, mane rippling in waves over he taunt muscles as her head dipped down. Gooch smiled, and squeezed her into an energetic trot.
The moment of tranquility was gone as Poet tossed her head, high stepping as they trotted forward. Gooch regained control, once again, working the bit until the mare was conentrating. They preformed a few simple figures of eight, serpintines and 20 meter cricles, working silently across the husffling sands.
Rising in perfectly harmony, Gooch sat deep, nuding the mare into a canter. Anticipating a mad gallop, Poet lept into life, bolting brashly forward, snatching the reins. Gooch frowned, regaining control with a swift tug of the reins, soft half halts and nudge of the heel. This little routine was carried on for a few more entries into canter, before the mare grew bored, and cantered steadily round the track, ears flickering slightly, pinning when they drew near the gelding. Feeling there were fully warmed up, Gooch slowed the mare to a halt.
He patted her neck, smiling as James approched. Poet glared at the other horse, shifting in the sand, tail kinked high as her head snaked towards him. Gooch swiftly reined back, scolding the mare quietly.
"Sorry. She's a little tempremental." Gooch apologized, shaking his head a little, though a smile played at his lips as Poet's head craned round, cheiwing feverishly on the reins.
