j a m i e w o o d ;the girl nodded understandingly. it was hard to lose someone so close. when he returned the question she was a bit drawn back. but the thing was, for once in her life, she really trusted someone. and since he had just walked into her life, he couldn't possibly be leaving. so thats when it hit her. she was totally into him. and it was worth telling him, because there was a chance he would understand.
"well, about two years ago there was this guy named mike. i thought everything about him was amazing and perfect. i hardly talked to him, but he obviously knew i liked him. and i was so sure he liked him. he always had a way to make me smile or laugh. and one day we were sitting in class, and on the back of his notebook, he was writing "i love ja...." my heart just lept. i couldn't believe he liked me. it was like my dreams were finally coming true." she said, her eyes dancing with joy, then they dulled. "he had hid the rest of it from me. finally, the teacher called on him and i was able to steal a glance at what he had written." she sighed softly. "jasmine." she ended. she pressed her lips together and shook her head. those were the memories she hated. but this was the first time she had ever talked about it.
tears tried to dance on her eyes, but she quickly blinked them back. okay, she was weird, but she didn't want to seem depressed either. she quickly wiped at her eye to make it look like nothing was wrong and then looked back at toby. "i think that sometimes guys like him get so into themselves that they just need to tease people to get the look of real pain. its like they don't have feelings. maybe its because their insecure that they just crowd themselves with others so they don't have to deal with what is really going on. but its like...i don't know. i never want to see him again. the next year in class, he tried to talk to me. that went pretty far. i walked out on him...like he did to me." she sighed softly.
soon there was a new feeling under her. she looked down and noticed they were now on the beach. a gentle tide of happiness washed in and she was feeling a bit better now. she knew she had a friend by her side, and two amazing horses. and they were at a beach. what was better than that? 434 words

we've gotta make this last. Toby listened calmly to what Jamie had to say, watching her expressions change as the story continued on. He felt slightly bad for her, that a boy had made her go through such pain. He hoped he hadn't made the girl he had been going out with feel that way. She had said she was alright with it... but he had always doubted it. It made him sad just to think of what he may have done to someone without really realizing it. Toby never wanted to hurt anyone. But love was painful, and if you could find that one person that made you happy, then you were a very lucky person. His mom had found two boy like that, except the one turned out to be a run away boyfriend. But right now, he'd rather not think about that, so instead he concentrated on the girl before him.
"I'm sorry to hear that. Us guys, we're a bunch of jerkoffs I guess." He said, laughing softly, hoping that a slight joke would be okay. Toby didn't really like when girls got sad, he would have given Jamie a hug right then, if they weren't on horses. So instead, he softly smiled at her.
Toby then felt the change in the horses step as they hit the sand, a grin spreading across his face. "Enough of this sad stuff, let's go swimming!" He said, changing the subject. He kicked off his shoes and reached down and threw his socks down onto the sand as well. He took off his shirt, hoping that Jamie wouldn't mind seeing him shirtless. He did have decent muscles, not a full sixpack or anything, but enough to get through changing in a locker room full of tough guys without being picked on. He threw the shirt on the pile of his stuff and nudged the mare toward the water.

j a m i e w o o d ;the girl giggled lightly at the boy's joke. he was a nice guy, and he obviously wanted to make her laugh. it was a nice change from most of the guys she met. she nudged goodie into the water after lucy. lucy had stuck her nose down to sniff the water before prancing in happily. she stopped when she got up to her belly and then began to drink. goodie did the same, happily following the lead of the older mare.
jamie laid back on goodie's rear-end for a moment, closing her eyes and stretching before lifting her leg over his neck and rolling off into the water. the splash spooked goodie a bit, and he side stepped, but he soon stood still and looked back around his side for his rider. he started to sniff the water when she didn't come up, but he lunged back when a sudden burst of water hit him from ahead. jamie had swam out farther and got him. goodie then pawed the water as if to roll, but he stepped forwards instead and struck out, splashing the girl back. of course jamie knew it was dangerous, but she let him have his fun, and she would stop it before it got out of hand.
soon, jamie dunked back under the water. goodie snorted and trudged back over to lucy and nudged her before nudging the boys leg and nibbling on lucy's mane. suddenly jamie reached out of the water and grabbed toby's leg, attempting to pull him in with her. lucy snorted and side stepped out of the way, crashing into goodie who sidestepped over. jamie giggled as the two horse trudged through the water together. finally they settled and the cloudy water soon turned clear again. 294 words [/sub]

we've gotta make this last. The brown haired boy smiled when Jamie laughed, glad to know that he wasn't a total dumbass. Or she could just be laughing at his stupidity. Meh, it didn't really bother him, people laughed at him all the time. Toby watched the girl fall into the water, laughing at the horse's reactions. He watched her and Goodie play, and then felt a hand grab onto his leg, he laughed and let himself be pulled off the horse and into the water, creating a splash. He came up out of the water and laughed. "Thanks for that." He said, reached a hand up to wipe his wet hair out of his eyes so he could see. What a hazard long hair was, when it got wet it just plastered to his forehead and covered his eyes, making seeing impossible. It was all for the sake of looking good though.
Toby grinned and swam a circle around the girl. After completing the circle he splashed her, swimming around the otherside of Lucy before she couldn't splash him back. He hid behind one of her legs, peeking out to see what Jamie was doing. Yeah, he was a little whimp. Not really, Man, that girl looked even better in her bathing suit when she was wet. Well... you couldn't blame him for checking her out a little. She was a hot chick and he was a guy, it was to be expected.
Toby adored swimming, it was one of his passions. Back home in Alberta he had a swimming pool in his backyard and he used to go in it every possible day he could. He loved the cool water and the way you could feel like gravity was no longer. Toby shook the thoughts of home away from his mind. He was here now, and he should enjoy the now, and not dread on the past. He put his concentration back on Jamie and the horses. Lucy, not liking the way Toby was hiding behind her, moved away, exposing the boy to the girl once again.

j a m i e w o o d ; the girl giggled and dove after him. she stopped and waited for lucy to move out of the way before diving and the boy and falling under the water. she came back up and spun around, letting some of the water out of her hair. it stood in little dreads around her shoulders. she smiled at the boy and stood in the water, her arms up fixing her hair. finally she let it go and it fell around her shoulders. she sunk down so only her belly button up was showing. she smiled at the boy and glanced at the horses where were both drinking happily and looking around. she brought her gaze back to the boy and smile. he was quite a funny guy. that made her smile. well, it was kind of impossible to laugh without smiling. not only funny, but cute.
who didn't want a cute guy? no one. and there were hardly any any more. she had gotten lucky to meet him. yet she was a bit worried that maybe he didn't like her as much as she liked him. she twisted a strand of hair around her finger as she thought to herself. the girl smiled and stood up again, walking to the shore and sitting right where the tide would come in, then leave again. she smiled at toby as if to say, "come over here". she looked at the horses who were soon coming up to join her. she grabbed them and quickly tied them to the post that was in the shade and then returned to her new spot. it was a great place to get a tan, and she needed one of those. she would rather get one from the sun than the salon. with a cupped hand, she began to dig up the sand and make a small mound...the beginning of a castle. 313 words [[okay, one more post after this one ]]

we've gotta make this last. Toby grinned as the girl came after him, he fell into the water with her, sputtering as he came up because he didn't have time to take a proper breath of air, instead he took in water. He sprayed it out and laughed, moving the hair once again from his eyes. He watched her wring out her hair. He then watched her go to the edge of the water, looked at her smile and then followed her to the shore, sitting beside her.
Toby couldn't help himself but watch her as she went to tie the horses up to the post. She had an amazing body, as well as a great personality and he was lucky enough to have met her. He was already granted with being able to see her in her bathing suit, what more could a guy want? Well... a few things. One being able to call a girl like this their own and another, to kiss her. He smiled at her as she came back down to sit with him.
"Alright, so you ride, you can swim, and you're d**n sexy. Is there anything not great about you?" Toby asked as he watched Jamie make a mound of sand with her hand. He decided a little bit of innocent flirting wouldn't hurt. Maybe let her know that he liked her a bit? Nothing bad could come out of that could it? Well... except for when she'd think he's a complete jerk and take both of her horses and run away. He just had to hope that wouldn't happen. Toby grinned at her and started helping her make her mound bigger.

j a m i e w o o d ;the girl smiled and let out a small giggle as he sat down. she looked at him and smiled. when he was done speaking, she was almost speechless. he thought she was that great? already? that made her happy. she smiled and nodded. "well, i can be a little insecure, but if you can look past that, the only other thing that i hate is spiders. i absolutely hate them. bad thing about barns...cobwebs....ew. spiders are nasty, i know their small, but i dunno. even little ones scare the crap out of me." she said, flashing a bright smile.
she caught on quickly and soon was going to aim it back at him. "so what about you. your cute, you have amazing eyes, and your funny. what are your flaws?" she asked with a playful smile. she added another mound of sand to her castle as he waited for his answer. she grabbed a small stick from on the beach and carved bits of the wet sand out and then sprinkled dry sand over the castle. she looked at the little work of art, then smashed it with her hand before writing "godzilla was here" in the sand with the stick. 201 words

we've gotta make this last. Toby nodded, a fear of spiders? Hah, that was just like him. Well, he was actually scared of pretty much anything that had more than four legs or none, like worms. Creepy much? He agreed with her totally, barns were so bad for cobwebs. But the big four-legged creatures were there to save him if he was to be attacked by the disgusting crawlies.
Toby shrugged as she backfired the question onto him. He could go on and on about a couple things. "Well... I do talk alot. People say thats a flaw quite often." He started, laughing a bit. "And anything with more than four legs is disgusting, and hidden camera's. I absolutely hate those things. It's a total invasion of our privacy and they should be banned. Seriously." Toby said, shuddering a bit at the mention of the evil mechanics of the small but deadly camera's.
Toby took a deep breath, he might as well tell her the thing that he thinks about everyday and will never escape him."And I've never seen my real dad." He said, his voice a little shaky. He didn't really like telling the story, but now was as good a time as ever and if she was going to be his friend, he wanted her to know. "My mom had me when she was 15 and he ran away. A couple years ago I got a letter from him, out of the blue. It took me a while to write him back, and he turned out to be a pretty cool dude. We now email each other almost every day. He's always on my mind, and I constantly think about how my life would have turned out if he hadn't been a f*g and ran out on my mom." By the end of Toby's little speech, his voice and settled down and he was able to talk normally again, although his heart was beating a little faster than normal. It was hard for him to tell anybody his past. Slightly because he hated his real father yet still wanted to protect him and make people think he was still a good guy. Toby just wished he could have had a dad while he was growing up.
"I have a step dad now, but we don't really talk. And him and my mom had a baby girl, Lillee. I love her to death, but sometimes I'm mad at my mom for having a kid with another man other than my father. But, I'm happy that she's happy." Toby said, sighing slightly. Well, now Jamie knew his life history that he rarely told to anybody. He didn't really know what made him tell her, or why he let himself. Most likely because he had sudden feelings for this girl and he wanted her to know where he came from and who it was he emailed every morning before doing anything else.

j a m i e w o o d ; at the mention of spiders and legged things she smiled. centipedes scared the crap out of her. there used to be some at her old house and she would either scream, or totally advoid that room. her parents often asked why she was sleeping on the couch. she didn't want them to know she was afraid of the centipede in the corner. at the mention of his dad, she stopped her godzilla tyrant, brushed her hand off on her shorts and gently took his hand in her own. she looked at him with understanding eyes and nodded. when he was done she parted her lips and spoke. my family was my everthing. well, up until my parents got a divorce. my mom bought me lucy as a sympathy gift. to tell you the truth, i hated everything about that mare until she was all i had left. i spent most of the time at my fathers. he was so depressed about my mom leaving him he started drinking. he was a very angry drunk and he usually ended up screaming or beating me. and then one night...he was so mad, he broke his beer bottle and came at me, threating to kill me if i ever saw my mother or that horse again." she said softly, soon pulling her shorts over a small scar on her leg. "he hardly got me, but it was enough for child services to force me to stay with my mom. by then, she had a new boyfriend who teased me about the way i dressed, and how i would rather be at the dirty barn with the hicks than with my own family. i let him know how i felt, and i punched him. i didn't want to hurt him, but about and hour later, i was shipped away to a boarding school because i broke his nose. i regret everything i ever did..." she said softly. "thats when my passion of horses came up. they didn't care how i looked, what i said or what i did. they were my escape. and they always will be. its like standing up for myself just doesn't work, so i run. and i don't want to do that anymore. i'm tired of being the girl who everyone thinks is a baby."she looked up into toby's amazing eyes and smile lightly. "and when i am around you...i feel like a person. not some child who runs away from the littlest things. i feel like i could dance in the streets and i wouldn't care what anyone would think." she spoke softly, but happily. there was something about him that made her feel safe.[/sub] 447 words

we've gotta make this last. Toby smiled as he felt Jaimie take his hand, squeezing it slightly as she told him her story. It seemed they had similar pasts, in the sense that they both had troubles. His eyes took a slight sympathetic look, but a slight, small smile was still displayed on his face. He was glad to have someone he could relate too, although he felt bad that Jamie had been put through that torture.
His smile grew a bit as he heard what she said last. He wanted to reach up a hand, tuck a loose strand of her hair behind her ear and kiss her. What stopped him was the fact that they had just met and it would probably be wrong to do that so soon. He didn't want to get in a relatsionship yet, he didn't know if he was ready and he barely knew this girl. Maybe after a few more days of being around her would change his mind though. Now was too soon, and he certainly didn't want to scare her off. "I'm glad." He said instead, giving her hand a squeeze.
"Somtimes, I feel that the whole world is against me. But it's things like today - meeting a special girl like you and going for a ride - that keeps me going." Toby said to her, his eyes looking into her's. In fact, Toby has thought of commiting suicide before, but something always stops him. Usually it's one of his friends, and alot of the time it's his little two year old sister, Lillee. He wanted to watch her grow up and be there to tell her future boyfriends off and to comfort her and love her and let her know she's special and make sure she's safe. He loves his little sister, and would do anything for her, and it keeps him going, thinking that it'll all be okay in the end. As Toby sat on the beach with Jamie, he realized that maybe moving here would help him in more ways than he realized at first.

j a m i e w o o d ;keep smiling, because i know someone who loves it when you do.A song for your heart, but when it is quiet, I know what it means and I'll carry you home...the girl smiled up at him. she felt like she was wanted the first time in her life. of course she lived for her older brother. she was teaching him how to ride, but right now, all she could think about was toby. he seemed like the most perfect boy ever. of course her brother was a big help when she was depressed. she remembered driving with him, and they would pass "prevent suicide" signs on the road. she was never one to cut, but she had thought of suicide before. well, up until she started loving lucy. hence the named eyed luv lucy. their first show opened her eyes to the possibility of life.
they both entered the ring new to the show scene, hardly dressed up, against people who knew what they were doing. they rode like they did at home, and got first. jamie couldn't do anything but cry. she spent the night in the trailer with lucy. she sat in the straw and talked to the mare. it was only her and her brother, and he was sleeping in the cab of the truck. he was the only one who had come to watch her. he was the only one who cared. she slept there in the trailer that night with lucy who laid with her. she had her head on her stomach, and lucy's head was wrapped around her. it was the picture perfect moment that no one had to see to know how special it was.
and this was like that moment. her and toby seemed to understand eachother. yea, she liked him, but she didn't want to ruin things by asking him out yet. give it a day or two. with him, life was good. everything. she was starting to get a bit cold from the water and the gentle breeze. goosebumps soon formed on her arms. the sun was slowly going down. it was the picture perfect date ending. she was happy that this moment didn't end though. she let out a deep breath and smiled, looking up at toby with wide, happy eyes. she pressed her lips together, before blinking a long blink. when she opened her eyes, tears were lining her lids.

we've gotta make this last. Toby smiled back at Jamie. Right now, the whole world seemed to actually make sense for at least a milisecond. It all fell into place and he finally knew what was going on. Toby looked off into the distance, seeing the sun slowly make its way to the horizon, making the shadows longer. The boy leaned back on his arms, staring at the glossy water with the reflection on the setting sun on it. The horses behind them stomped one of their hooves, flicked a tail to get a bug away and grazed quietly. Toby had an urge to play his guitar, but he had left it at the barn, which was a pitty. But, it was truely a beautiful moment. He looked over at Jamie. Yes, a truely beautiful moment shared with a truely beautiful girl.
Toby then noticed the girl take a long blink, and he noticed something sparkly, like a droplet of water, at the corner of her eye. Was... was she crying? He dared himself to say something, but he didn't know what. Something funny? Something soothing? Something at all? What confused the boy the most was the fact that he didn't know what to say. He always knew what to say. Maybe being tounge tied like this was a way of telling himself that he didn't want to say the wrong thing in front of this girl, meaning that he had feelings for her.
Toby's brown hair was pretty much dry, and he flicked a few strands away from his eyes. He still looked at Jamie, her eyes lined with wet tears. Finally, he decided on no words, but took actions instead. The boy reached a hand up and ran his thumb softly over one of her eyelids and then down to her cheek. Her skin was so soft, and he wanted to touch it forever, but he knew he shouldn't, and let his hand trail down off one of her shoulders and down her arm, resting on one of her hands. He kept it there, a small, comforting smile on his face.

j a m i e w o o d; a song for your heart, and when it is quiet, i know what it means...
the girl gently leaned her head when he wiped her tear, a small smile lining her lips. her goosebumps went away at his touch and her wide eyes lost the tears that they once held. it was true. everything was happening the right way for once and her heart fluttered. she brushed a loose strand behind her ear and looked at his hand on top of hers. this was too good to be true. but yet it was.
she looked back up at him and smiled. this night was absolutely magical, and it wasn't even a date. she couldn't help herself but smile. it danced happily on her face. her eyes lit up, her whole expression was light and happy. her heart swelled up inside her and she didn't know what to say. all she could do was smile. finally she decided to speak, but just a few words. "this is perfect." was all that came out before she gently rested her head on his shoulder.
looking up from grazing, lucy snorted softly and looked at the pair. she let out a low whicker and looked to goodie who snorted and continued eating. she flicked her tail and dropped her head again, ripping at the long stalks of grass on the side of the beach. finally, she let herself down and laid in the grass, her legs curled up tightly under her and she laid her head down around her side and closed her eyes. shortly, there was a sound of a horse snoring. &&i'll carry you home. 254 words [/sub]

we've gotta make this last. Toby's heart hadn't beat so fast since... well since he had started dating that girl way back when and when he was in the waiting room when Lillee was being delivered at the hospital. Toby had had a few defining moments in his life, and he had a feeling that this might just be one of them. His smile grew a fair bit when he felt Jamie rest her head on him. He loved to feel the weight of a girl against him. He loved to make them feel special and important. And most of all, he loved the way he could help them when they're feeling down.
Perfect. Yeah, it was perfect. Toby looked down at the top of Jamie's head resting on his shoulders and smiled, moving an arm around her to her waist. "It is." He said softly, looking out across the water once again. He could have sat here forever, letting the world slowly get darker around him. The slight breeze blew past the two and he had to shiver a little bit. He would have moved and put on his shirt, but he didn't want to move and break the moment.
Toby let his mind wander, thinking about the world around him and how he ended up here. His mom had wanted to send him here for something different. She felt he needed a change in his life. Toby hadn't wanted to come to a horse stable at first when his mom first mentioned it, but as the winter dragged on and summer approached and he got to know the horse his mom and step-father had already bought him he got excited about moving and meeting all the new people.

j a m i e w o o d; a song for your heart, and when it is quiet, i know what it means...
the girl smiled lightly and gently closed her eyes. she envisioned the sounds she heard. lucy napping, the water rushing up, hitting her toes, then falling back down into the clear madness. his arm around her waist made her feel wanted, and it was comforting. the gentle breeze made her shiver a bit as the last droplet of water on her arm from her hair dried up. her hair laid perfectly over her shoulders again, but it was a bit tangled and windblown. she could always fix that before she went to bed.
hooray...bed. she thought. she got to sleep another night in the lounge. she hadn't signed up for a dorm, but the manager of the stable offered for her to sleep in the lounge. all though most nights, she slept in her truck or her trailer. her living conditions weren't quite perfect, but she put up with them. and she would continue to put up with them because life he was already getting sweeter.
the girl slowly opened her eyes. usually she could slowly open them, and if it was a dream, she could snap them back shut and keep dreaming. but this time, she was still at the beach. she looked up, and toby was still there. she remembered her mothers saying "you know your in love when you don't want to go to sleep because your reality is better than your dreams." okay, maybe it wasn't love, but it was a crush. a big crush. and she couldn't help herself.
