we've gotta make this last. Toby's thoughts continued on for a few minutes, the silence around the two humans not awkward but slightly comforting. It seemed right, and the boy enjoyed listening to the sound of the water lapping at the shore and the sound of horses near by grazing and sleeping. The slight breeze made the tree's rustle. It wasn't silence at all, the nature all around them was constantly creating sound. Most of the time you were just too busy to notice it at all. It was times like these that you realize how much you miss when you dont take the time to listen.
The last calls of the birds were being made before they settled in for a good sleep. Toby could use some of that right about now. He was tired, and he wanted to go check up on Jade before he went to bed. But he didn't want to leave Jamie, she was much too perfect. But tomorrow was another day, and maybe they'd meet up again.
"Hey, you wanna head back?" Toby said softly, breaking the silence between the two. "I want to check up on Jade before it gets too dark out." He continued, smiling. He hoped she didn't mind that he wanted to leave. Well, he didn't necessarily want to leave, but he thought maybe it was time too. The sun wouldn't stop its descent for them.

j a m i e w o o d ;keep smiling, because i know someone who loves it when you do.A song for your heart, but when it is quiet, I know what it means and I'll carry you home...the sound of his voice made her pick her head up. it took a few seconds for it to register in her head. the first thing that came to her mind was dang. he has a great voice. then she actually caught what he said. "yea. sounds like a plan." she said with a smile. she stood up and brushed off her shorts and adjusted her top before stretching out a hand for the boy. once he was up, she headed over to grab the horses and held out the reins to toby and smiled. goodie sleepily nudged jamie's butt and she giggled before bumping up against the stallion's head.
lucy snorted and rubbed her face against toby's shorts and snorted before picked up her head and whickering softly to goodie. lucy pawed the earth, bringing up dirt and then lowered her head to sniff it. goodie whickered and tried to sniff it, but was pushed away by lucy. jamie got up on goodie and laid back on the stallion's rear-end. he snorted and took a step foreward before bobbing his head.
as jamie looked up, the stars started to come out. star light, star bright, first star i see tonight, i wish i may, i wish i might, have the wish i wish tonight...i wish tomorrow could be as amazing as tonight was. she said her wish under her breath. suddenly a flash danced across the sky. a shooting star. two more danced across. she smiled and closed her eyes. she sat up for a moment, waiting for toby. every night when she brought the horses in, she said goodnight to them. hopefully toby didn't think that was weird. for the night, she was going to put goodie in the main barn. she would be up early enough to put him where he was supposed to be with only her and toby knowing.

we've gotta make this last. Toby smiled and got up with the help of Jamie's oustretched hand. He smiled at her, "thanks." He said to her then walked over to where he had dropped his clothes and put his shirt and shoes back on. He then walked over to the horses, gently taking lucy's reins from the girl. Toby grabbed hold of some of her main and backed up a few feet and took a running leap, using the peice of mane to help pull himself up and over the horse.
The boy looked at Jamie, watching her look at the sky. He looked up just in time to see the second shooting star she saw. He smiled, and then wondered how perfectly perfect the night had been. It seemed almost unreal, like any moment he could wake up and find himself back under the tree in the pasture, fallen asleep with his guitar still on his lap. He pinched himself, just to see if he would wake up. But nothing happened, except now he had nail marks in his skin which quickily vanished.
"Alrighty, lets get going." Toby said, nuding Lucy into a walk, heading for the trail they had come from. He could have easily spent the night here with Jamie, but something told him that maybe it wasn't good to get too intimate too quickily. He thought for a second that he might perhaps be scared of getting into a relationship, but he pushed that thought of his mind, telling himself not to be silly.

j a m i e w o o d ;keep smiling, because i know someone who loves it when you do.A song for your heart, but when it is quiet, I know what it means and I'll carry you home...she nodded and nudged goodie forewards, he reluctantly walked by lucy's side. the woods were like a warm blanket around them. jamie almost felt at home riding through there. she rested her head on goodie's neck as he walked forewards. she smiled and took in his scent, rubbing his neck.
soon the woods parted to reveal the barn. the girl smiled and rode goodie over to the paddocks that were next to the pasture jade and lucy were in. she was too lazy to head into the barn, and decided in her mind that she would leave the horses outside. she got off and put goodie in the paddock, taking off his bridle. surprisingly, he stayed and rubbed his head against her stomach instead of barreling off to eat. "i love you lots like tater tots, and even more than jellow shots." she said to the stallion who rubbed up against her again. he soon rested his head on her shoulder and snorted. "nighty night. don't let the bed bugs bite, and if they do, hit them with a shoe till they turn black and blue." she said with a slight giggle.
the stallion pulled his head away and sniffed at her face. she kissed him on the nose and left the paddock. she put the halter on a small hook outside the paddock. lucy snorted, ears perked. she always loved the sound of jamies voice. and she always got a bit anxious. after she had said goodnight to goodie, she knew it was her turn. but surprisingly the girl walked up to the guy. lucy snorted in protest and bobbed her head. "good night." she said with her wide hazel eyes and a gentle smile on her face.

we've gotta make this last. The ride was short, and they didn't speak to each other. Instead, Toby just thought about the going ons and what it would be like to be a horse. He often told himself that he'd like to be one. They weren't judged like people were. As they rode up to the paddocks, Toby slid off of Lucy, landing with a slight thud on the ground. He patted the horses side, his hand staying on the horse as he moved up to her head. "Thanks for the ride, babe." He said to her, petting her on the velvety part of her nose before handing the reins over to Jamie. "Thanks for letting me ride Lucy." He said with a grin after he listened to her say good night to Goodie. He laughed a little bit, a grin spreading across his face. "My mom used to say that to me, when I was younger." Toby said, having a sudden flashback of him laying in bed with his mom brushing his face gently with the back of her hand, saying those silly little rhymes to him, making him giggle and grin.
Toby missed being a little boy. He had had fun times with his friends, and he remembered how much his mom had cared for him and how well they got along. After all, they were only 15 years apart. When he was 15, his mom was 30, which is still quite young. Thinking about home made him miss his family and friends, so he quickily tried to put those thoughts behind him.
"We should so totally do this again sometime." Toby told Jamie with a grin as he slowly made his way to the corner of the pasture Jade was in. He let out a high whistle and the horse who was a fair bit away pricked her ears and looked over at the boy. "C'mere girl!" He called, and Jade broke out in a lope to get to him, sticking her face over the fence and nudging Toby's outstretched hand. He petted her, and put his forehaed to hers, breathing into her nostrils. "G'night Jadey, love you." He whispered to her. She bumped her nose against his head, whickering softly at him.

"we should definatly do it again." she said a little to excitedly. she stood against the fence and watched her mare and the filly. they were too beautiful at night. she smiled and looked at him, watching him talk to his filly. life was good. "maybe i'll see you tomorrow." but what she was really saying in her head was i will go out of my way to see you tomorrow. she took the keys to her truck out of her pocket and blinked open the truck. she grabbed her pajamas and looked around to make sure they were the only ones, and went behind the trailer to change.
she back back around the side with her pink pajama shorts and light pink cami. she grabbed a blanket from the cab of the truck and cuddled up in it. maybe she would stay and talk to the horses for a little bit tonight. it was only 9, and she didn't have to be up till 8 in the morning to clean stalls.

we've gotta make this last. Toby leaned up against the fence, smiling as he was nudged by the mare. Jade looked at Lucy and nickered very softly in greeting, nudged the older mare, again softly, and then dropped her head to graze.
Toby watched, and then turned around, leaning on the fence looking at Jamie. She was just so gorgeous, and he couldn't get over that fact. He had no clue why she had stopped and talked to him. She seemed so shy at the start, the way she wouldn't quite look at him full on. But now it seemed she had no problem with it. It was probably one of those trust things. Sort of like a horse. They won't let you touch them if they don't trust you, but if you build up the trust, you could do almost anything. Even though they were big creatures, they still had feelings and you had to take them into consideration, just like humans.
"Oh yeah, definately." Toby said with a large grin. He wouldn't give up anything in the world to see that pretty face again. Toby tried to think of an excuse so he could see Jamie again while she went and changed. He was a bit surprised that she came out from behind the trailer with her PJ's on, but then it hit him. "Hey, you wouldn't want to go shopping with me tomorrow would you?" Toby asked, his voice hopeful. "I have to get a new halter for Jade and I'd love a new pair of jeans or something." He said, glad he had thought of something. He had been meaning to stop by a local tack store and pick up a halter for his filly, but he kept forgetting.

j a m i e w o o d ;keep smiling, because i know someone who loves it when you do.A song for your heart, but when it is quiet, I know what it means and I'll carry you home...the girl looked up at him and smiled. "that would be great. i have been meaning to get some new stable sheets, or a cooler for the ponies. maybe stop by caribou on the way there?" she asked with a bright grin. so things were going to keep going between them. it was perfect.
shopping was one of her favorite things next to horses. she was glad he brought it up because it would have never occured to her if he didn't. it was a great time too, because she would be grabbing her pay in the morning. everything was coming up jamie!
lucy snorted softly and nudged the filly again before turning and barreling off down to the end of the pasture, whinnying, then cantering back up. she had some newfound energy that she wanted to burn. jamie giggled at her horse and shook her head as lucy slowed down again by the fence and stuck her nose out, trying to see if jamie had anything. "oh yea! sorry girl" she said with a smile. she unwrapped the peppermint that she had been holding and held it out for the mare who took it gratefully. lucy munched on it before looking for another one.
jamie couldn't wait for the next day. she hoped that it would be as perfect as the time they had together that evening. and the mall was a great place to hang out and have fun. her and her friends had always done crazy things there. one time she stuck a piece of tape above her lip with a drawn on mustache. and another time, her and her friends went to the dollar store and bought silly ribbons that they wore on their belt loops. her's said "husband to be." she giggled just thinking about it.

we've gotta make this last. Toby nodded, "that sounds great. I work at Caribou by the way." He said with a grin. Sure, not the best place ever to work, but it was a job and it payed good money. Plus he got a discount on coffee, so it was all good. He would have liked to work here at the stable, but he went into Caribou Coffee and saw a sign that they were hiring on his first day here, and he needed a job to be able to feed Jade and himself, so he took the job. It's not that bad, and he's learned how to make some of those special coffee's.
Jade, seeing Lucy bolt, ran after her, then stopped and watched her go back to the fence for a treat. The filly's ears pricked at the slight scent of the peppermint and she came running back too, bumping Toby's back with her nose, asking for something good to eat. "Oh but, you're gonna get fat." He said, although he laughed and dug around in his shorts' pockets, finding a treat he had put in there earlier. It was a bit waterlogged from having gone swimming, but he was sure it wouldn't make a difference to his horse, so he held it out on an extended palm, and sure enough, Jade lapped it up without a second thought.
Toby noticed that it was getting quite dark outside, and he yawned. He'd had a long day, having gotten up early in the morning. So now he was tired, and eager to get to bed. "I think I'm gonna head to the dorms. Are you sleeping in the truck?" Toby asked, a slight confused look taking over his face. He wondered why she had changed into her PJ's out here. It was a bit odd.

"i still have to sign up for a dorm. i will probably do it later." she said with a little shrug. okay, probably not later. hopefully when she remembered again. she stepped into the pasture, the grass was starting to get a bit of dew on it. she shook off her foot and patted the mare who joined her again. the girl smiled and rubbed her forehead, leaning her own head against it. ...I'll carry you home. 107 words
